Several years ago I received a compulsion to give away my income for one year and to write about the experience. The book is a journal of how I did that—how I decided where to give, how I survived, and how the adventure affected me. Not everybody may be challenged to have that exact kind of giving experience, but everyone can find simple and practical ways to give should they so desire. This book provides plenty of practical suggestions and inspiration.
LEADER GUIDE FOR "RISKING IT ALL: ONE WOMEN'S ADVENTURE GIVING AWAY HER INCOME"
What happens when our dissatisfaction won’t go away? When we can’t shake the feeling that there must be more to this life?
Author Jill Marie Thomas lived the typical, middle-class lifestyle until she realized none of it filled her “satisfaction hole.” It never will, because it can’t. We were made for something more, for eternal purposes, and ultimately, an eternal destiny.
In this twelve-session Bible study, Jill builds on her experience of giving away her income for one year and challenges each participant to confront twelve of the major social issues of our time and make a difference in their own way. With humor, honesty, and encouragement, Jill shares the “hard” Bible verses about these difficult issues, explains how to determine which charities use their funds wisely, offers a plethora of simple ideas and ways to give and make a difference, recalls her thoughts, feelings, uncertainties, and joys throughout her year of giving, confronts our mindsets about the people all around us, and provides discussion starters and project ideas relative to each cause.
Session topics:Evangelism, The Homeless, The Hungry, Human Slavery and Sex Trafficking, Widows and Orphans, The Thirsty, The Poor, The Sick, The Persecuted, The Naked, Those in Prison, Discipleship
